POOH-BAH's in the House! (The poor house, that is.)
On Sunday, April 18th from 4-7pm, the historic Middletown Almshouse, built in 1810 as a refuge for the homeless and destitute of the area, will host a different group of people. This time the Almshouse will be host to a benefit for the talented and always entertaining Middletown-based Connecticut Gilbert & Sullivan Society.
CG&SS is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a fully orchestrated revival of "The Mikado" at the new Middletown High School Performing Arts Center on October 22, 23 and 24. And what better way to celebrate "The Mikado" than with a Japanese-themed party, complete with food, drink, prizes and, of course, live performances of some of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular numbers with the talented Dr. John Dreslin at the baby grand!
So come for the food, singing and merriment, to support the arts, or to find out more about CG&SS and "The Mikado." The Middletown Almshouse is located at 53 Warwick Street in Middletown. This event is open to all at no charge, but donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the production of "The Mikado." Costumes are encouraged for those so inclined but not necessary. Auditions for the show will be held on June 6 and 8 (from 6 to 8pm) in Middletown at Congregation Adath Israel.
